Hellenistic Baggy Kantharos: Boiotian?

Part of wall, rim, and lower handle attachment.

Convex upper wall, incurved rim. Groove well below lower handle attachment. Below rim, ivy garland with incised stems, running right. Hard fabric with little mica, mostly gray at surface, with red core (2.5YR 6/8); dull gray-to-brown glaze outside, black inside.

Fabric similar to that of 1667. Incision is unparalleled in Athens at this early date, though common elsewhere (e.g. Eretria II, pls. 36--40; Demetrias I, pls. XVII--XXI). Possibly Boiotian: cf. Kabirion III, nos. 126--129, p. 131, pl. 8, especially decoration of no. 128.
