Title: | Black Figure Loutrophoros Fragments
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | A number of fragments make up into two groups: Group a): preserves the full profile of the neck, some of the shoulder and two tall vertical handles. On the neck are two figures, very tall and thin. The better preserved is a man, right, wearing long chiton and himation. Red is used for his fillet, his beard and for some stripes on his himation; white is used for his long staff, which he holds in front of him, and perhaps for stripes on the chiton. The figure on the other side, of which only the lower part is preserved, is practically a replica of the first so far as can be told. At top of shoulder, rough tongues, then the top of a head and part of some other figured decoration. Group b): three joining fragments preserve part of body. A Siren, right, and above her part of another figure. White for Siren's face; on her wings, alternate red and white stripes. Two broad glaze bands inside the lip; the front edge of the lip reserved; its outer face black outside, with an added wavy white line.
