Title:   Black Figure Amphora Fragment

Description:   Slightly more than one-half of neck and shoulder, with one handle, of a massive bauch-amphora. Mended from many fragments. Decoration on one side only. On neck, rays, pointing down; below, interlaced lotus and palmette band. On shoulder, below figured zone, linked buds. In the figured zone, which extends across the shoulder from handle to handle, battle of Lapiths and Centaurs, fighting in pairs. Elaborate and careful incision; free use of added red, for hair, beards, shields, rocks, etc., and in the borders.
