Title:   Red Figure Plate Fragment
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Fragment from floor of a very large plate; center not preserved. The head of an eagle left, facing a bare foot resting on rock ground, right; above, on a slightly higher level of ground, a pair of sandalled feet left, and the bottom of the garment of the figure to which they belong. Lacings of sandals elaborately rendered. Drawn in outline, carefully, but with a rather thick uneven line, the background not filled in. Brown for the feathers on the eagle's neck, and irregularly for the drawing glaze. Underside glazed black save for reserved band near center. The curving break at the lower left may preserve the line of junction with the foot (or rim?).
Context:   Drain A 1, early Roman fill.
