Title: | Red Figure Cup Fragment: Inscribed | |
Category: | Pottery | |
Description: | A single fragment preserves the stem and part of the floor. Short stem, with a neat moulded ring at its base, set off by incised grooves. Figured inside only; the medallion framed by a single reserved line. Within, the front part of a speckled bird: pea-hen? Relief contour. Letters around in added red: <graphic> Good glaze. ADDENDA Ch. Clairmont suggests that this is part of a bird's courting scene; P.E. Corbett contributes a picture of a b.f. handleless mug, BM B367, cock and hen, which gives a parallel for the hen's head here.
