Title:   Red Figure Askos

Description:   The handle and the spout are missing. There are no grooves sunk in the surface of the vase; the decoration is all in reserved technique.
The flat bottom is unglazed. The rim of the shoulder is outlined by a reserved line. To the left of the spout a bird of prey, possibly an eagle, is flying to the right. Below him to the right is an object which may be a stone. On the other side of the spout is a hare running away to the right. There is no relief contour; the main drawing of the inner details is in relief but the smaller details, the crossbars of the bird's tail, the lines of the plumes on his neck, and other accessory markings, are in dilute glaze. The markings of the hare are also in dilute wash.
Fine clay; excellent glaze.
