Title:   Black Figure Column Krater

Description:   Mended from several pieces; the foot and fragments from the body missing; a little of the moulded foot above the ring preserved.
On handle plates, lyroid palmettes; on rim above, dotted lotus bud pattern, the stems skipping one; on vertical face of rim, ivy wreath. Rays above base. Figured panels framed above by tongues, alternately black and red; at side, ivy pattern, below, a glazed line.
A) Herakles right, grappling the lion; at left of picture Athena, at right Iolaos.
B) Five komasts.
Free use of red and white.
ADDENDA One more fragment added almost completing the second left hand comast of side B).
Context:   Well beneath Stoa gutter, boxes 39-46.
