Description: | Horse-head panel type. Mended from many fragments and restored in plaster. Swelling body with greatest diameter above center. Cylindrical vertical handles neck to shoulder. Heavy flat-topped rim. Body covered with thin black glaze save for reserved panels front and back on shoulders. Below panels, around center of pot runs a double band of applied purple. Good glaze inside for 0.065m. below rim. In each panel, a horse head in profile right, framed by a narrow thin glaze stripe close to the edge of the black. Mane and forelock in applied purple. Interior details (eye, bridle, etc.) are carefully drawn with incision. Attic clay. Cf. Pfuhl (1923), fig. 201; and for date, ca. 600 B.C., Payne (1931), p. 342. | |
