Title:   Plate Fragment: Stamped

Description:   One-third of base, and small fragment of sides preserved but neither center nor rim. A large plate on a low base ring. Inside are several stamps, including a woman's head, facing, with a coiffure of snail-shell curls in front. Perhaps more of this personage was stamped, but only the head is clear. Above it, a bird, perhaps a peacock, left. At the right is another head, which seems to be incised rather than stamped, a female head right, on a conical neck, with the hair simply drawn back and over the ears. These figures all within a large circular groove.
Thick coarse light-red clay, light red glaze on inside, but badly pock-marked.
African red slip ware.
