Description: | Ten fragments of rim and walls from a vase decorated in two zones. On the rim, slanting palmette scroll. Below, Dionysos and his followers, the head of Dionysos, left, filleted, preserved; and the right shoulder of one maenad; bits only of the other figures. a) Rim fragment. b) Head of Dionysos. c) Kantharos of Dionysos. d) Maenad with thyrsos. e) Thyrsos with vine spray. f) Arm with oinochoe. g) Leg, vine and drinking horn. h) Lower edge of rim, with trace of head beneath. i) From near rim, with back of head(?). j) From lower zone, egg pattern above, a cloaked figure left, looking right, and a tail tip. Partial relief contours; added white for vine sprays. Careful work. Good glaze, that of fragment f) somewhat greenish. Cf. Hesperia Suppl. 10 (1956), p. 49, under no. 212. ADDENDA P 8446 belongs with these fragments. P 7282i gives most of Satyr's legs. P 7282b joins P 8445f. P 7282c and d) give most of Dionysos' lower half. Fragments g) and j) belong to P 7282. Fragment i) does not belong. | |
