Title:   Plate with Sgraffito Decoration
ΤΙΤΛΟΣ:   Τμήμα λεπτεγχάρακτου πινακίου με παράσταση του Διγενή Ακρίτα με το Δράκοντα 12ος αι.

Description:   Less than half preserved. Large plate on very low ring foot. Almost vertical rim A warrior, facing, wearing a high conical cap, a tight-fitting suit of crisscrossed underwear covering arms and legs, and a fustanella. His long curly hair falls below his shoulders. In his left hand he carries a shield, in his right a short staff topped with a rosette. Two tree-like objects rise from his shoulders. At his right is an eagle or falcon, and around him, encircling the plate, is coiled a dragon. The rim is decorated with a border of alternate lozenges and teardrops above a debased guilloche.
Light red clay, yellow glaze. White slip and thin glaze over all of exterior.
ΠΕΡΙΓΡΑΦΗ:   Απότμημα Βυζαντινής λεκάνης, με μορφή Διγενή Ακρίτα και Δράκοντες. Σώζεται περίπου το μισό τμήμα του ευρήματος.
Notes:   Coins 6-8 of 9 March 1937, also from same pithos, which has consistent fill.
