Title:   Head of Male Figure

Description:   Small bearded head in the Archaic manner. Nose, end of beard, and hair above forehead chipped off. Braid round back of head, traces of locks at forehead. Left eye more highly arched than right. Broken surface at back of neck, much worn. At back of beard, two large well-marked, lateral grooves, roughly cut.
Careful work.
Pentelic marble.
Context:   Found in a mixed Byzantine and late Roman deposit in a well at the north foot of the Aeropagus.
