APC Image: AK 1032: Two fragments of Archaic sculpture from North Wall. Left: Head of Archaic Athena, ca. half life size, of white island marble, found in the pit below the Parthenon column drum. The right side of the head and lower part of the face below the eyes, and also the back are missing. She wears a helmet, which is indented at the ear so as to show a small circular earring. The eyes are horizontal and buldging. The hair, arranged in regular curls, shows in front under the helmet. In the top of the head is a dowel hole, in which the crest of the helmet was fastened. Right: Small fragment of Archaic Kore of coarse island marble, found in the same place as the preceeding, but at a somewhat lower level. A circular earring for the left ear, a bit of the hair at the point where the locks part over the shoulder, and the lower edge of the stephane are all that remain.
