APC Image: AK 1067Archaic pedestal of white marble built into the medieval wall of the Acropolis directly above the Mycenaean stairway. The name Hippotherides, inscribed on it, occurs on an archaic altar dedicated to Herakles which was found at Menidi, the ancient Acharnae (IG., I 2, 777). Since this seems to be the only other instance of the name in Attic inscriptions, it is obvious that the dedicator of the altar is the same Hippotherides who set up the votive offering to Athena. The letter-forms, also, of the two inscriptions are similar.
