Stratum: | Trench S II, south extension
Notes: | We have struck so many walls and stones that it becomes impossible for us to proceed deeper without destroying something. So I am stopping here and extending E end of S to south hoping for a better chance to go deep here. There are new lots of S I, S II, S III, S IV from this new section. [James-Nakassis: The elevations for the south extension are taken from those of the main section of trench S (so we are assuming that he is digging the same levels). Note that this assumption is corroborated by the fact that the bottom of S IV south extension is 1.25 m below ground level, as is the bottom of S IV in the main section (see B80 and B90).] [This pottery is probably from NB 81 B 79, NB 81 B 83 and NB 81 B 90] [p. 368] S II 0.30-0.65 Mycenaean LM III painted about 70 sherds or more. Decoration is conventional late style. About 20 sherds are painted solid with red or brown-black varnish (much like Hieratic vessel) reminds of Urfirnis method. Unpainted Mycenaean ca. 20 sherds. Coarseware ca. 16 sherds Minyan 6 sherds Mattmalerei 3 sherds dull black on buff (2) on yellow green (1) fairly coarse Obsidian 1 chunk Terracottas -- forepart of 1 quadruped and rear portion of another (2)
