Stratum:   Fill of well. Reddish brown sandy clay with 5% pebbles and charcoal, loose and damp.
Notes:   This basket continues the excavation of the fill of well 2002-2, after an arbitrary change of basket. After the soil appearing a bit more brown last basket, it is back to its familiar reddish brown clay, which clumps in the hand but easily falls back apart. There are still many large tiles. At an elevation of 81,50 m. we uncover a large fragment of the well head, carved from limeston, circular with a square base, and hollow. The soil under it is softer, but still with big tile fragments, and the same color and appearance. Most of the pottery now appears to be Geometric. At the end of this basket, arbitrarily at 10.80 m. below the platform, the excavators A. Brown and B. Ager descended. Three sets of hand/foot holds were observed, and are described in the next basket description, which continue down below the level of the dirt at the bottom of this basket. Two large fragments of the well head also poke above the surface of this dirt and will be removed with the next basket. Three bags of dirt were saved for the wet sieve.
