Stratum: | fill N of wall 215; brown, sandy silty soil, slightly compacted, poorly sorted, with 30-40% inclusions of tile and cobbles
Notes: | One limestone piece was found in the soil (ca. 15 cm. long). There was not as much tile in the N part of B49 as there was in the S; there was more plaster, however. We found a worked piece of limestone (ca. 20 cm. diameter) with a possible inscription (a chi or di-gamma); this piece could also be part of a sculpted human figure? Basket 49 seems related to Basket 39 in composition. We stopped this basket due to a soil change. In the S part, there is a darker and redder strip of soil with the darker one possibly being related to the robbing of wall 278. In the N part, there is a very red patch of soil. We found bronze, glass, and painted plaster.
