Stratum:   Removal of Square Feature W of wall 290, S of wall 291: compact light greyish-brown dirt over a layer of tiles w/ 50% inclusions of tiles primarily and some medium pebbles.
Notes:   B73 is the removal of the square feature west of wall 290. It is clear that it is abuts wall 291 to the N and that it does not enter some fill (B74) that clings to the west side of wall 290. This sq. feature has also been called a hearth and a bin. It is not a hearth as there are no burn marks but it may be a bin. This B will be dry sieved. The small pick was used. The components of this feature are hard packed earth that has been laid over top of a row of roof tiles. The soil is very dry as it has been exposed to the summer sun for several weeks.
It is clear that this feature was constructed after wall 290 and wall 291 as it abuts both walls. The layer of tile does not continue under wall 290. The clay floor that as the bottom of the pit was not cut by this feature, it simply was added to the top of the floor. On the south side of the feature, a .05 by .15 m patch of small pebbles was found. Tile count 26, weight 6,2 kg.
For the excavation of this feature see NB 977 B 50 & 51.
