Context:   19

Date:   2006/05/03
Stratum:   Possible pit
Notes:   Dark reddish-brown compact clayey silt with light root systems and 5% round medium pebbles. Basket 19 is the removal of a pit that appeared in the area S of the column drum and E of the gutter and Well (well 2005-01). The circular area of darker soil is surrounded by harder more compact soil with a much higher concentration of pebbles (60%). The extraction of the soil of B19 will determine whether B19 was cut in to the surrounding area and whether the darker soil actually delineates a pit or simply recent deposition. At the bottom of the pit, there is hard pact soil with pebbles that appears to match the surrounding area.
