Stratum:   Crust removal at W side of water channel
Notes:   The matrix of this basket is greye brown sandy silt compact with 10-30% small pebbles. B 38 is the removal of a crust over the area due W of the water channel and E of well 2005-01. The removal of the crust should help to clarify the relationship between the stata to the N of B38: B37 and the top of a layer with much debris included (B39) which is directly N of the water channel. It is possible the removal of this crust which contains a lot of wall plaster will help determine the extent of the debris deposit. A concentration of wall plaster fragments was located in the SW corner. One large stone originally thought to form part of the upper walls of the drain was shown to be floating and was thus removed. At the end of a pass it is decided to do one more within this basket since the soil does not seem to make any changes at this point. More remains of wall plaster appear in the SW corner. The pass unearthead 3 differentiated pockets: one with large cobbles, one with a pinkish clayey soil and a roughly rectangular shape and one area that has more pebble inclusions. The relationships between these strata is not yet clear.
