Corinth Basket: NB978 B46 P104
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   NB978 B46 P104
Area:   Panaghia north
Category:   Basket/zembil
Notebook:   978
Context:   46
Page:   104
Date:   2006/05/10
Stratum:   Level crust
Notes:   The matrix of this basket is weakly cemented medium brown sandy silt with anywhere between 5% to 15% cobbles. B46 is the removal of a relatively level crust that seemed to expand from the N baulk to the S edge of the grid. The crust formed the bottom layer of B37, B38 and B43. It is expected that removal of the crust will allow for investigation of the water pipe trench (NB973 B23) that is thought to continue its SE course. Also it will allow for access to the darker soil of B44 which also is running underneath the crust. The basket uncovered a segment of cement which is roughly the same dimensions and material as the one used for the lining of the floor of the gutter. Also more of the surface of W 271 to the E of the diamond tile pool seems to appear. The soil continues to be homogenous in pretty much the entire pass. At the S end a crust was removed on top of B44 that revealed more of the same soil seen in B44 expanding underneath it. In the area around the jar more of the plastered upper end of what could be the continuation of the gutter is revealed. It appears at a lower elevation in relation to the S part of the gutter. Also to the W of the jar and to the E of the diamond tile pool a relatively large layer of roof tiles is uncovered that seems to be lining for the upper surface of a wall which follows a N to S axis. Also at the N end of this basket and attached to the baulk another part of a small block is revealed. In the center of the basket the continuation of the drain pipe trench (NB973 B23) seems to cut through another block that is part of a wall running from N to S and connecting W271 with W287.
