Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   NB978 B54 P120
Area:   Panaghia north
Category:   Basket/zembil
Notebook:   978
Context:   54
Page:   120
Date:   2006/05/15
Stratum:   Cistern fill
Notes:   B54 is the removal of the latest stratum of the fill in the Hellenistic cistern (Cellar 2005-1) The cistern is located N of the villa pool and bounded on the E by wall 282, on the N by wall 265 and on the W by wall 283. There is a large block (supporting beam) that runs horizontally through the approximate middle of the cistern on a N/S axis. The section W of this block was excavated in a previous season (NB 975), 978 B54 is the deposit E of the beam. B54 contained several large fragments of roof tile (341 W. 88.1 kg) a few large boulders (ca. 0.4 m), broken pottery and a few flecks of carbon. 40% of the dirt removed in B54 was set aside for wet sieving, while the remaining 60% has been dry sieved. Towards the end of the pass a row of medium sized boulders has been located that seems to bisect the E part of the cistern. E od the row of stones, there is a layer of cobbles, while in the S/E there is a deposit of reddish clay. It was decided to stop the basket at this point and elavaluate the relationships between these areas, thoough W of the row of boulders, the deposit seems to be the same as B54. Note: In NB 975 B41, a row of boulders similar to those uncovered in B 54 in terms of size and orientation of the row, was uncovered and removed. Those stones and those from this basket may be from the same event.
