Type:   Basket
Name:   NB980 B54 P121
Area:   Panaghia north
Category:   Basket/zembil
Notebook:   980
Context:   54
Page:   121
Date:   2006/06/07
Stratum:   fill of pipe trench, light brownish brown, very soft, 10% fine-coarse pebbles, poorly sorted fine sand
Notes:   The earth at the bottom of B52 had become somewhat soft, and appears to be the same as the rest of the fill within the pipe trench's N portion (below B51). The earth to the immediate W of B54's bottom is a bit harder and blonder, continues W below B42, and appears to mark the W edge of the pipe trench cut and the S edge of the N Cut. At the bottom of this basket, we have located what appears to be the last preserved segment of the pipe, sloping steeply down to the N at a final (top) elevation of 90.77. It is slightly disjointed from the male end of the preceding segment. The softer brown earth that characterizes the trench cut continues downward, but we are halting further digging here for the time being. At the N end of B54 we have reached the reddish brown earth at the S edge of the N cut, which definitely disturbed the pipeline and its trench. It should be noted that B54's coin (2006-92) was found to the immediate N of the sunken end of the last pipe segment within the brown earth; good deal of glass was found here as well.
