Notes:   The matrix of this basket is medium reddish brown sandy silt with 15% pebbles. B3 is the removal of a layer of reddish pebbly soil that is obscuring part of W 265. The deposit extends from the E scarp at ca. 423.5 E, skirting the N edge of the deppression left by the tile lined pit removed in B 1, and continued westward along the S edge of W 265, possibly obscuring the S face of the wall. It then goes over the wall, spreading southward from W282 to ca. 422.5 E, down to 966.5N. The deposit produced pottery including some burnished coarse ware fragments near the E scarp that are similar to these recovered in B 1 and NB 978 B 93. The removal of B 3 revealed a gap in W 265. Where it was thought that the deposit overlay the wall in fact there is a gap of ca. 0.45 m. The gap is on axis with the small boulders removed in NB 978 B 83, though the relationship between them is not clear, and the elevation between the gap and the stones is different.
