Stratum:   Pit. Fill semi-compact reddish brown silty sand, from 10% to 40% small cobbles and bones.
Notes:   We are investigating the soft fills with some bgones and cobbles on the surface. At first, we concentrated on the slightly more compacted east area to see whether it would break away into a more cobbly fill like to the west (the view in the scarp suggested as much. But then we found more red fill. It now appears that he same red soil is under the entire basket area, so we are clearing east and west ends together. We are collecting soil for sieving.
The bones are scattered, not articulated, with no orientation. Tasos observes that at least some of the bones are animal.
Continued digging revealed that this was no grave, but rather an ill-defined lens of soft soil with cobbles concentrated in one west area. We cleared out all of this loose fill to expose only the reddish brown silty sand with debris below. Probaly this basket was clearing out material from an earlier pit ou into the reddish brown fill.
