Stratum:   Gravelly lens of fill. Loose brownish borwn fill with 40-50% inclusions of medium to coarse spherical, rounded pebbles.
Notes:   This basket removed the gravel patch between wall 291 and the stone feature in the eastern part of the trench. This patch cuts into the reddish brown fill in the middle of the trench. This patch cuts into the reddish brown fill in the middle of the trench. The patch was also cut in the south by the foundation trench of wall 291, and in the east by the foundation trench of wall 290. We left a martyr on the south and the east so that the foundation trenches could be drawn by the architect James Herbst. After waiting we took the martyr, and below, the tops of stones were revealed which seemed to be part of an E-W running cobblestone wall or the line. The fill to the south became redder but had basically the same composition, so we switched baskets to make sure all the loose gravel was cleared before proceeding. To the north, the gravel stopped short of the wall-like stone feature (edge @975N), leaving a narrow lens of red-brown fill intact on that side.
