Stratum:   Fill, possibly a small pit in the debris. Reddish brown loosely compacted silty sand with 10% inclusions of fine and medium rounded pebbles.
Notes:   This basket takes the light reddish brown soil in the NE corner of the trench. The soil changed character roughly along the line from the NW corner of the stone feature at E412.50/N976.10 to the rubble along the N scarp (E411.75) on the first pass. Beyond this line, we encountered more mud brick, so the second pass returned to the NE corner of the trench. We hope this will reveal the northern extent of the stones uncovered Friday between the stone feature and the eastern scarp. We took out th reddish brown fill gradually--it revealed more green and yellow clay mud-bricks and cobbles, and one large stone perhaps in situ. The stone console continued down--the fill here runs up against its face. A balk of clayey earth with bits of charcoal remains to the east which seems to run over the same big stone at the north. It needs to be taken next.
