Stratum:   Surface. Light yellowish brown, coarse grained compact ; 40-50% inclusions, fine to medium pebbles, very poorly sorted. Silty sand.
Notes:   Basket 95 was begun under the cleaning basket 94 east of cistern 2006-01 and directly east of wall 290. IN this area we will be looking for any foundation trenches or floors associated with the neighboring wall. The top layer of the basket was extremely hard, probably the result of being baked from the sun. Furthermore, there is a significant number of inclusions, mostly medium to coarse pebbles. Two passes were taken on this basket and after the 2nd pass an exterior floor surface was found. This floor surface was indicated by numerous sherds and tile fragments lying flat; furthermore, chunks of soil came off with each pick blow revealing the rough floor surface. The floor was so ragged and rough that we think the surface must have been an exterior floor. After exposing the floor surface we closed this basket and then removed the floor in the following basket, number 96.
