Stratum:   Foundation trench of W215
Notes:   The matrix of this basket is dark reddish brown sandy silt, compact to loose, with 2-5% pebble inclusions. B29 is a possible foundation trench for W215 that was first identified in the last pass of B17, where a softer darker soil seemed to extend from W215 to ca. 0.4m to the N and then changed into a harder lighter reddish brown. As excavation proceeds deeper it is evident that this is a foundation trench. At certain points the soil is so loose that is removed simply by brushing. This is explained by the big gaps in the stones of W215 which allow the soil to slip through and create air pockets. The basket was ended because it was too narrow to proceed any deeper. The soil was dry sieved.
