B44 is a reddish brown layer that formed the bottom of both B41 and B42. It was determined that the hard pack which extends to the N of B43 along the W side of the blocks actually slopes underneath the brown reddish soil of B44 so excavation proceeded in the entire area defined by the bottoms of B41 and B42. After one pass a dark greyish brown layer with a lot of carbon flecks in its matrix is uncovered that seems to be the same soil that was on top of the N part of the so called foundation trench ot the W of the two blocks.
