Stratum:   Bothros? Soil is medium reddish brown sandy clay 30% pebbles, 10% cobbles, some charcoal. Loose.
Notes:   B 31 is our next pass in the deeping hole of B 30. It is now appearing like the beginning of a well if not a circular bothros. The nice archaic flat bottomed, long necked oinochoe comes out withthis basket, though pieces may mend to the last basket as well. A very thin and flat stone (3cm thick) comes out, its edges broken, but its flat face presumably worked. It seems too thin to be a sarcophagus lid.
The layer and pit seem to stop as we come down on a redder soil. It is more likely a bothros than a well.
Even if this hole does continue further down, it will become difficult to dig without a winch strong enough. We move instead to the west, to the fill isolated as darker in the area dug in B 28.
Found Archaic oinochoe.
See top plan pg. 57.
