Stratum:   Ash fill. Light greyish brown. Fine grained soft with 10% inclusions, fine to medium pebbles poorly sorted. Silty sand.
Notes:   Basket 24 was a small area filled with ash fill northwest of the hearth. This stratum was identified after basket 23, however, the upper portions of the ash fill seem to have been mixed with a brown soil and removed in basket 23. The soil from this basket was dry sieved and finds included an iron fragment and limited ceramics. After all of the ash material was removed, a red-bwon soil was observed at the bottom in addition to some rocks, roof tiles an pottery. Later it became apparent that these inclusions at the bottom of this basket formed the western part of the pit excavated in basket 30. Photographs were taken following basket 24 and before removing the hearth stones in basket 25.
