Area:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field
Title:   Room 8 - Leveling fill
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   111
Date:   2016/06/13
Stratum:   20% tile; 20%stone: 10%coarse pebbles, 5%medium pebbles, 5% cobbles
Description:   The soil color is dark reddish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   -111 is slightly harde than 100 and slightly more reddish than 100, 109, 110.; 111 has slightly fewer tiles than 109 and 110.
-Pass through entire trench (except areas excavated in contexts 109 and 110).
-Earth relatively uniform throughout trench, but more cobble-sized stones found in NE section of trench.
-Earth underneath is harder and more reddish but unclear if it is floor surface; still rather irregular, with lots of stones and tiles imbedded in level. Floor surface does seem to have been exposed previously along wall 50 on the E. edge of the room; this was exposed during the previous excavation of this area last year. Also may be exposed in SW corner of trench.
-In bottom of context, revealed level underneath 111 along E. side of trench (next to previously-exposed E. edge of room next to wall 50) is darker, less red, softer, with more tile inclusions than possible exposed floor surface; this may be debris resting on floor surface underneath.
-Level underneath in NW section of trench full of more stones than possible exposed surface level.
-Surface possibly exposed in central section of trench towards wall 103 as well; further excavation needed to determine if this joins with surface exposed along E. wall 50 and possible surface in SW corner of trench. However, boundaries are largely diffuse.
-Rest of exposed earth is harder and more reddish than removed earth from context 111, but still not uniform enough to be floor level. This will be excavated next as new context in an attempt to reveal more possible floor surface.
