Description:   The soil color is light reddish yellow. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy clay.
Notes:   This section (section 2) is 1.5 m (N/S) x 2 m (E/W) section placed immediately adjacent/north of Section 1, which was placed to excavate the pit feature exposed in the scarp of NW courtyard (in Trench 3).
The surfaces (real and imagined) and their relationship to one another are growing confusing.
There appears to be at least 3 MAJOR SURFACE preparations in the courtyard and during excavations each of these major events was subdivided into a number of intra-surface events. 295 is likely one of these events with the larger, major-courtyard-wide yellow surface.
This section was expanded because section 1 appears to have been disturbed (even beyond the pit), and this area of the courtyard appears more pristine in the scarp cut by the backhoe. Thus, this is the first level of that exploration and begins with a surface/structure of hard-packed reddish yellow clay with a few stone inclusions, a few artifacts that slope from NW --> SE and the center of the courtyard, and which was overlaid by a number of surfaces, sits atop others was cut by pit 275 and was likely, for a period, a useful surface/occupation space in the courtyard used by the inhabitants of this house.
