Lot:   Lot 2013-012
Stratum:   25% inclusions, consisting of ceramics, glass, tile, plaster, charcoal, chunks of white or sand inclusions.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the SE. The soil color is dark yellowish brown. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This is a lighter layer that appears to have a similar texture and appearance to 1101. We are excavating this to determine if the ashy layer that appeared under 1101 and to the NW of 1103 continues under this context. Ultimately we hope to reveal the fullest extent of the cuts discovered under 1101 and hopefully find a level surface. This likely will not be found during the course of excavation of this context. We think we will find that this context covers the destruction layer/dumpfill found after excavating 1102.
In the SE corner, we came upon the layer underneath first. It appears to be a red destruction layer rife with very large chunks of tile and ceramic (not on a level surface). Found in the excavation were stone architectural elements, loom weights, and huge chunks of plaster flooring (3 pieces: a: 20 x 18 x 8 cm; b: 24 x 9.5 x 8 cm; c: 25.5 x 20 x 6.5 cm). There was also a large base from a marble vessel.
This reddish dump fill under this context appears to continue under the entire context. The ash from 1078 in the NW appears to come right to the W edge of this context and stop without proceeding at all beneath.
In the W part of the context, where the architecture fragments and plaster was concentrated, there appears to be a change from the E part. The soil underneath has far more inclusions (tile, stone, cobbles) and is slightly lighter.
