Title:   Fill immediately above threshold block in N-S wall
Category:   Deposit

Context:   115
Page:   0
Date:   2007/05/16
Stratum:   inclusions: 10%: subangular cobbles (<2%), sherds, tile fragments, fine and medium pebbles.
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. Bottom slope of the context is slight. The soil color is dark pinkish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   When B65 was removed, a deposit of reddish or pinkish soil was revealed in the south end of the excavation area, going into the scarp at the southern limit of excavation. (see bottom plan for B65).
B115 removes the majority of this deposit, the rest was removed with B130. These two baskets are the same context. They were not dug as one out of a miscommunication - human error.
B115 reveals a large squared stone (0.60m x 0.42m) with a round indent (Diam. 0.065m) that looks to be a pivot hole for a door. This stone is oriented with a line of stones lying ca. 1.5m to the north - also revealed by B65.
We interpret the large squared stone to be part of the same wall as the line of stones to the north.
The pivot hole suggests this block is part of a threshold - however, until more of the wall is revealed, we can't be sure that this isn't simply a reused threshold block built into the wall.
