Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the NW. The soil color is dark greyish red. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   This is a thin layer of soil which Thanasis removed to help clarify the deposits west of well 742 after removal of the hearth. Because this area had been exposed for a year, it was very dry and compact, with boundaries difficult to distinguish. Therefore, we consider this a cleaning context. The primary consequence was exposure of a distinctive black soil around all sides of well 742 which we removed next as context 1175. This context also defined the edges around two large stones resting west of the well which may be remains of some kind of structure.
