Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the N. The soil color is dark greyish red. The soil compaction is compact. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silty sand.
Notes:   Context 1180 is a uniform deposit not exceptionally rich in finds in the area west of well 742 and north of robbing trench C687.
Thanasis carefully defined the boundary between this context and the robbing trench to the south, which consists of a more yellowish soil and a different compaction from the darker red soil of this context. To the southwest of well 742 we removed a floating boulder 0.42 long x 0.30 wide, which seems to have been cut on one side, and may have been part of a wall. Kate thought that the area exposed west of well 742, although slightly higher in elevation than the area to the east of the well, may form part of the same deposit as that area to the east.
As part of this same context we excavated the area around the hearth to the north as well as the depression on the west, which borders the boundary of the excavations. Throughout the large area of the context, we came down on a darker, redder soil; although it was a bit more grey to the northwest, there was no obvious shift and seemed to be more or less contiguous.
Immediately west of well 742, there are the tops of several stones which may represent a different deposit, but the soil is similar.
