Stratum:   light yellowish brown soil with 10% pebbles, 10% cobbles , yellow clay, and tile
Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. Bottom slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are removing the hard surface in the SE corner of the trench. The highest point is in the center and slopes down on all sides. The soil is hard and it is taking most of the morning to dig it. Near the SW corner of the basket beneath the hard layer , the soil is softer. This SW area is next to a lense with cobbles and may be connected to it. The cobbly lense actually remains outside the basket and may be the remnants of a robbing trench or wall. The softer soil was part of this basket and rested on the clay layer . It probably was softer since the water from the weekend rains didn't permeate the clay. The basket ended revealing reddish soil to the N, a clay layer to the S and a round pit (?) to the SW where the soil is very soft.
