Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the S. Bottom slope of the context is slight down to the SThe soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   B 218 follows the curve of the apse to the west but was darker than the soil of B 217 so we are digging it separately. It appears to have been robbed out further down than B 217.
The soil here is a very depp red with no wall stones in it. It must have been robbed out and filled with a much different soil than that in the eastern part of the apse (B 217). The soil here is turning out to be the same west of the apse and wall. Thus we are digging further to the west than we originally thought. The red soil is forming a very nice, clear curved cut in the west.
We are seeing a whiter soil along the "wall" which runs under the red soil west of it. Thus we are stopping to dig the red soil first.
Post excavation notes: We moved down the apse and down the west side of the building exposing the wall and areas where it was robbed out, not returning to finish excavating these areas, to expose these features before the end of excavation season.
