Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. Bottom slope of the context is slight. The soil color is light brownish red. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   B 227 is the removal of a silty and rocky area of soil directly below B 188 and around B 226. It sits in a depression in the field and I believe it may be a deeper layer of the material we excavated in B 188.
On the southern edge of this we are encountering a hard, more rocky layer of soil which we are leaving in place to be dug as a separate basket.
Much like in B 188, we are not pulling up a substantial amoung of pottery.
The black soil exposed by this basket in the north runs under the large clay patches to the east.
The rocky layers left intact in the south are most likely more of this wash. Moreover, there is noe to the east and one to the west of this basket and they may represent the same soil and the center was washed out even lower.
