Title:   dumped debris east of robbing trench
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1101
Context:   280
Page:   0
Date:   2008/05/14
Stratum:   70% tiles, ceramic, small-medium angular pebbles, clay patches
Description:   Top slope of the context is slight down to the N. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   The light yellowish brown matrix has clayey patches that are more yellow, but also some red. The deposit contains very large tile fragments (ca. 25 x 15 cm) that are seen to the south of this layer in the wall collapse/robbing projecting from the south extent of the trench.
This context appears to lie on top of a floor. In the notes for context 192, dug by last year's excavations, they note red soil underneath that context which seems to be a floor. This patch is preserved to the NE of context 280, and seems to be at the same level, or slightly lower, as the supposed floor under 280.
Because of the floor, we begin to sieve, with about 50 % of the context remaining.
Underneath the top layers of 280, we see some charcoal, especially toward the southern end.
We find some chunks of plaster.
We extend the context further south than originally planned, into an area with fewer tiles, since the soil appears to be the same.
In the southern portion we find a patch of ash, which will be excavated separately.
We decide to excavate the SE most part separately as the soil appears different.
The fill/dump did not reveal any cutting for the robbing trench beneath and extends over the entire top of the N-S section with patches of ash/black/dark red clay in the SE and NW (Over robbing trench) corners.
