Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark pinkish brown. The soil compaction is loose. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Pit fill 499 is the soft loose fill of a pit cut through a layer of collapsed tile destruction to the west of wall 306 and north of wall 376. The pit fill was easily distinguished by its lack of tile debris and the difference in compaction from the deposits into which it was cut. As the excavation of the pit fill 499 progressed, it was noted that the south eastern wall of the cut is vertical but to the north west, the wall of the cut seems to open out slighty, perhaps indicating a built pithos or that at lower elevations, the deposits to the Nis significantly softer than that to the south and east. The removal of the darler softer pit fill 499 revealed a subsequent fill with a blonder clayer matrix. It is decided to excavate this deposit as the second pit fill from the top.
