Description:   Top slope of the context is moderate down to the W. The soil color is light brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   We dug this level to better undersand the tile debris above (5227), whether it was destruction debris or fill and how these surfaces related to those on the west side of the N-S wall. Also we were getting down to the level of the complete, in-situ pithos to the W and a large squarish tile sticking out (which turned out later to be part of a hearth). Since it had many less inclusions than above and less ash than below (5234) this layer might have been natural or human deposit above a floor level and before the destruction debris (5227) formed. It is next to a possible doorway, so perhaps (f this was an interior space as is suggested by the enclosing walls excavated in the 60's) fill may have built up from the outdoors after a house was abandoned but before it fell down.
