Description:   Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark greyish brown. The soil compaction is very soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   Deposit 5267 has a square-shaped outline, and the soil is very soft which helps identify this context as fill. The bottom of the fill is defined by the appearance of the partiton E-W wall that bisects our excavation area. Before digging deposit 5267, the partition E-W wall was only visible where it ran into the eastern scarp formed by the 1960's excavations, and from the northern wall cut of the large pit (5169) in the center of our excavation area. Pit 5169 abuts the south face of the E-W partition wall.
When the top of the deposit (5267) was being excavated, cobbles where uncovered which our pickman said where not part of the wall due to fact that the cobbles were sitting in a loose soil matrix.
Further excavationof 5267 showed that it was mostly likely a robbing trench. It was clear that some stones were removed from the E-W partition wall, gaps appear where stones once sat. See 5268 for details concerning the cut of the robbing trench.
