Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light yellowish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   We are excavating this context to identify the hard floor surface revealed during the removal of the robbing trench fill. This floor appears in the W cut of the robbing trench (5548).
Upon removal of this context, the floor was revealed in the NE and N sides of the aquare martyr, but it was cut by a large pit which takes up most of the space of this partyr. Upon inspection of this cut, our workman realized that its edges may in fact line up with the edges of the cuts revealed under 5541. We have decided to take out a cleaning context (5568) to explore this possibility. If this is true, then this pit is at least c. 30 cm deep, since the cuts under 5541 are at lower elevation than the cuts on the square martyr. See drawing for 5563.
