Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   This pit fill was revealed by the revomal of 5608 and fills pit cut 5629. The formation of this pit (5629) is 12th cent based on its fill (5614). The northern half of this pit and its fill were destroyed and exposed to the north by the deep scarp that divides North of Nezi from the south Stoa. In other words, the appearance at the top of the cut is a semicircle which is open to the north. Since there is no top cut to the north and its north-facing scarp has a gradual slope, we are hoping once the fill is removed, the base of the northern part of the cut will be discovered. We removed a large section of the existing north-facing scarp (between 263.50 and 265.60) in order to avoid contamination. Our pickman Thanasis removed this scarp-melt down to what he thought was a floor surface (83.90). None of the finds from this scarp removal were kept. When Guy Sanders came to investigate, he noticed some of the pottery lying flat and embedded in the "floor" may be modern. We preceded to excavate the fill with care leaving with the intention of leaving a baulk once the lower elevation of the "floor" was reached. Smodern looking pottery lying on the surface which Thanasis thought was a "floor". We cThis "floor" is most likely backfill left by excavations carried out during the 20th cent. We think this scenario is the most plausible for two reasons: 1) on the southern edge of this aforementioned "floor", there is a south-facing cut which would have bisected the circular pit near its base. Since the top of what we assume was once a circular pit was also bisected and northern half of the circular pit
