Description:   The context shape in plan is rectrangular. The top break of the cut is sharp. The sides of the cut are vertical. The break at the base of the cut is sharp. The base of the cut is uneven. Truncation: 5802 is truncated by pit 5629, pit 5758, and wall 5678.
Notes:   This is the robbing trench of fill 5777. The cut is approximately 5.70 long and is defined in the south by the north face of e-w running wall 5562 and in the north where 5802 is truncated by pit 5629 and pit 5758. The cut has also been truncated by e-w running wall 5678 between 1042.70 N and 1043.50 N. The fill under wall 5678, a portion of which belongs to fill 5777, was left in place to keep the wall from collapsing. Once wall 5678 is removed, the excavation of fill 5777 can continue. It should also be noted that the fill under wall 5678 appears to have been cut into at approximately .40m east of the east-facing side of the robbing trench. This cut in the fill may be related to the difference in the width of robbing trench 5802 south of wall 5678 versus the north (see top plan). The reason why the width of the cut is different in the northern section may be understood after the wall 5678 is removed and the rest of fill 5777 is excavated. For now, we suggest that it might be related to a later robbing of a different wall (see below).
The base of 5802 to the south is formed by four Roman blocks. Block "1", whiich is the largest (.61visible length, it runs into the west face of the cut); .77 H and. 77 .50 W) abuts e-w running wall 5562 but is not built into it. The top of this block may define the bottom elevation of wall 5562 (around 83.67 EL). Just north of block "1" lies block"2" which only has one visible face and this face is flush with the base of 5802. Block "3" sits on block "4" and their northern faces define what appears to be a cistern (cut into by the original foundation trench?) visible in the east facing side of the robbing trench. North of these blocks may be the rubble fill of the robbed out wall's foundation. It appears a series of large cobbles and small boulders mixed with roof tiles. There is also the possibility that this mixed stone and roof tile base may be part of fill 5777. When excavations continue in this area, this possibility should evaluated.
In the northern section of the robbing trench there are two distinctive cuts. Even though the eastern edge of the cut forms a relatively straight line from wall 5562 to the north until the 5802 is truncated by 5758, at 1044.30 N there is a change. North of 1044.30 N, the eastern edge continues, but the cut is shallow, and only .15m deep. There is the unlikely chance that this shallow section is more of fill 5777. At 1044.30 N., there is a cut that is at an angle to the N-S running eastern edge of 5802 which appears to be the continuation of the cut from the south (see top plan) that is then truncated by pit 5629. It is possible that this turn in the robbing trench represents a return of the robbed out wall and possibly related to the aforementioned cut in the fill under wall 5678.
