Stratum:   20% inclusions: medium rounded cobbles, tile, small angular cobbles, small angular pebbles, large angular pebbles
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish brown. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   We switched baskets because we detected a change in the hardness of overlying context 5808, as well as a difference in the inclusions-- the exposed context (5812) contained cobbles and tile fragments.
As he was excavating this context, and in the process of trying to define it, it became apparent that the soil goes deeper in the context where we are excavating now than it does to the S. The stones that the pickman is defining are small rounded boulders, apparently moving in a N-S orientation, and they may continue. We are currently trying to define their extent, because the line of the exposed stones appers to match with the stones uncovered after the excavation of context 5708 directly to the N- which we previously ID'd as stones associated with the E-W wall.
After further confirmation, the pickman felt fairly certain that the stones did not continue southward. He uncovered a new stratum that was more compacted and flat, but which still went down inside of the cut. We decided to switch baskets at that point. The stones running from N-S may corner at the point where the robbing trench depth changes from deep to shallow.
