Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is light reddish yellow. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is poorly sorted. It is sandy silt.
Notes:   Deposit 5857 is a pebble surface in Quadrant C overlying the hardpacked dirt surface revealed in 5836. Its inclusions are almost entirely pebbles, mostly rounded. It is implied that these pebbles, rounded by erosion, were intentionally collected and scattered across the surface of the courtyard to serve as an extensive floor. In some places, the removal of the surface 5857 involves merely scraping away the pebbles, in others the pass is deeper. The removal of the pebble surface 5857 has revealed more of the hard packed surface with some patches of chunky debris that 5836 revealed. It will likely serve as the stopping point for excavation this season in Quadrant C and D, as the foundation trenches for walls 5783 and 5442 have already been identified and excavated, walls 5508 and 5784 are later and overlying the construction of 5857 and several deposits above it. These deposits will be excavated in later seasons, after permission to dismantle the later walls 5442 and 5784 has been obtained.
